TotalEnergies’ Annual General Meeting is taking place today 24 May. We’ve engaged with the company across a range of topics including climate change and human rights and this year we participated in an initiative to co-file a consultative shareholder resolution at the 2024 AGM. The resolution called on the board to consider improving corporate governance by splitting the positions of Chair and Chief Executive Officer. We believe a more independent board could help to strengthen the company’s approach to its climate change strategy and management of human rights risks. We’ve also pre-declared our intention to vote against the re-appointment of the Lead Independent Director at TotalEnergies, holding him to account for the Board’s refusal to allow shareholders a vote on this topic.
